Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) PDF Print E-mail

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is the use of video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific place, on a limited set of monitors.

It differs from broadcast television in that the signal is not openly transmitted, though it may employ point to point (P2P), point to multipoint, or mesh wireless links. Though almost all video cameras fit this definition, the term is most often applied to those used for surveillance in areas that may need monitoring such as banks, casinos, airports, military installations, and convenience stores. Videotelephony is seldom called "CCTV" but the use of video in distance education, where it is an important tool, is often so called.

A digital video recorder (DVR), sometimes referred to by the merchandising term personal video recorder (PVR), is a consumer electronics device or application software that records video in a digital format to a disk drive, USB flash drive, SD memory card or other local or networked mass storage device. The term includes set-top boxes (STB) with direct to disk recording facility, portable media players (PMP) with recording, recorders (PMR) as camcorders that record onto Secure Digital memory cards and software for personal computers which enables video capture and playback to and from a hard disk. A television set with built-in digital video-recording facilities was introduced by LG in 2007,[1] followed by other manufacturers.

DVR adoption has rapidly accelerated in recent years: in January 2006, ACNielsen recorded 1.2% of US households having a DVR but by February 2011, this number had grown to 42.2% of viewers in the United States.

RG-6 PDF Print E-mail

RG-6/U is a common type of coaxial cable used in a wide variety of residential and commercial applications. The term "RG-6" itself is quite generic and refers to a wide variety of cable designs, which differ from one another in shielding characteristics, center conductor composition, and dielectric type. "RG" was originally a unit indicator ("Radio Guide") for bulk radio frequency (RF) cable in the U.S. military's Joint Electronics Type Designation System. The suffix "/U" means “for general utility use.” The number was assigned sequentially. The "RG" unit indicator is no longer part of the JETDS system (MIL-STD-196E) and cable sold today under the RG-6 label does not necessarily meet military specifications. In practice, the term "RG-6" is generally used to refer to coaxial cables with an 18 AWG center conductor and 75 ohm characteristic impedance. RG6 is insulated with an aluminum foil sheath. Even though RG-59 looks similiar to RG-6, RG-59 is insulated a copper foil sheath.

Below are commonly used CCTV terms that can help you select the right lens for your CCTV application.

A.L.C. (Automatic Level Control) - An adjustment on video iris lenses also known as the "average to peak" control. This allows iris compensation for bright spots within the field of view either by exposing for them in particular (peak) or by taking an average across the entire scene.

ANGLE OF VIEW - Can be expressed in Diagonal, Horizontal, or Vertical. Smaller focal lengths give a wider angle of view.
